Apechimp: Modelling from 2D
I was wanting to create a character model that demanded a more stylised look and also to adapt a 2D design in order to replicate the demands of a studio environment more accurately. For this I asked an old coursemate to lend me his character design known as 'Apechimp'. Created in response to a period of procrastination, I liked the honesty of the character as well as the mashup of influences from The Simpsons and Aardman. After experimenting with XGen hair for a while, I decided that for this character using XGen became overly complicated and opted for a less-is-more approach with sculpted hair that added more form to the silhouette of the character.
